How practice sessions work¶
What MemoLeap Spelling means by a session, what the free version keeps between sessions, and what the 30-minute break reminder is for.
What a session is¶
A session is a stretch of using the app without a long break. Closing the app, or leaving it in the background, for more than five minutes ends the session. When you come back after that, the app opens on the Home screen, whichever screen you left it on.
Shorter interruptions, such as answering a message and coming straight back, don't end the session.
What the free version keeps¶
On the free version, your word groups, the words in them, your custom recordings and your settings are always kept. Creating a group or adding a word is never undone by the passage of time.
What the free version keeps only for the current session is your grades and results. When a session ends, every word goes back to Unseen, and the Results and Progress screens go back to saying that a learning round must be completed first. Each session starts with a clean slate, and the words you find hardest quickly show up again as you practise.
Premium keeps grades and results indefinitely, across sessions, which is what makes the Progress Over Time chart and practice reminders possible. See Free vs Premium.
The break reminder¶
Once you've spent 30 minutes on the Learn screen in one session, the app shows a message when you next start or continue a round: "You've been practising for 30 minutes. Research suggests shorter, regular sessions work best — this is a good place to stop. Keep going if you'd like." It has two buttons:
- Keep going — carry on. The message isn't shown again this session, however long you continue.
- Stop for now — return to the Home screen.
The message has no title. These pages call it the break reminder, but that name doesn't appear in the app. It can appear when you tap Start learning on Home, when the Learn screen opens, or when you tap Resume learning on Results. The 30-minute count starts again with each new session.
