How practice reminders are scheduled¶
How MemoLeap Spelling decides when to send a Premium practice reminder, and what the Home screen's status line is telling you.
What the schedule looks at¶
The schedule is worked out from the words in your own active word groups: the groups you created, ticked, and filled with at least 10 words. Built-in word groups are not included. If you have no active word groups of your own, no reminders are scheduled at all.
The schedule is updated every time you complete a practice round, and whenever you add words or switch groups on or off.
While you're still learning¶
As long as any of your words is Unseen, reminders come about once a day. The Home screen shows "Practising daily — keep it up." and the notification reads "Time for today's spelling practice — a few minutes keeps it fresh."
Adding new words, or switching on a group with words you haven't been asked, puts you back on daily reminders, because there's new material to learn.
Once everything is strong¶
When every word is Good or Very Good at the end of a round, reminders start to spread out. The first gap is 2 days. Each further round that ends with every word still strong doubles the gap: 4 days, then 8, then 16, then a cap of 30 days. The Home screen shows "All words strong. Next review …" with when the next reminder is due, and the notification reads "Time to refresh your spellings before they fade."
The idea is to bring your words back just before you'd start to forget them, rather than nagging you more than you need.
If your grades slip¶
- A small slip — no word has dropped to Weak, and no more than about one word in ten is Developing — halves the gap until your next reminder, but never below a day. The ladder isn't reset.
- A bigger slip — any Weak word, or more than about one in ten Developing — puts you back on daily reminders, as if you were learning new words. The next time every word is strong, the gaps start again from 2 days.
Reminders pause; the schedule doesn't¶
Switching off Practice reminders cancels the pending notification but keeps your place in the schedule. Switching it back on schedules the next reminder from where you were. Losing Premium works the same way: nothing is deleted, and restoring Premium picks the schedule back up.

Timing isn't exact¶
A reminder is scheduled for a specific time, but your device may deliver it somewhat later to save battery. Only one reminder is ever pending at a time.
